Oakland Coliseum Area Specific Plan
Ambitious Planning to Expand Parkland Access in Oakland
Overall, the proposed Coliseum Plan will facilitate the creation of up to three new professional sports venues, up to 5,750 housing units, and almost 8 million square feet of net new commercial and business uses. The Coliseum Plan Area is expected to have around10,000 new residents and 21,000 new jobs by the time of project buildout in the year 2035. Click the image below to read the full plan.
The East Bay Regional Park District maintains jurisdiction over large parcels of land outside the subarea boundaries and beyond Portal Oakaldn jurisiduction. East Bay Parks should assume greater Resposbilty in the implementation activities outlined in this plan to achieve Land Use objective, "Parks and open space should be located to be easily accessible for residents, workers, and the surrounding neighborhoods."
A Parks Crisis in Oakland
There is a parks crisis in Oakland. Nearly 50,000 Oakland residents live nowhere near a park, deprived of the financial and health benefits of green space. I am running for East Bay Parks Director in Ward 2 to pursue an ambitious plan to create access to the vast regional parks system for these residents and provide a lifeline to families in need of relief from the crush of urban chaos.
